This morning I finished implementing early version of the save system and got the bones in place for a progression system. I also seperated out the menu into a different scene. The progression stuff I think actually isn't as scary as I had anticipated. I'm getting a lot done. I just need to make sure to clean up alot and I also have to get it in front of players to test the new gameplay loop. Although I need to make sure the player can tell what the heck is going on. I need them to get a look at the loop, not bugs etc.
In the evening I did brainstorming for enemy types and got going implementing them. It became a rabbithole as these things do but I think the issues I solved needed to be addressed. Stuff like the spawning rate, tuning how close the enemies spawn, despawning enemies that are too far away, etc. I have created some nicely different feeling enemies already - the Squdling and the Zombie. Squidlings are slightly slower than the player and not too tough, but the idea is that they are very numerous. The zombies spawn in hordes and are very slow. they have high damage resistance, but are very vulnerable to critical hits.
Cool ideas. Just have to keep working.
